High School Explorations Series: From Black Holes to Artificial Intelligence

8 months of live, deep-dive science and technology courses for grades 9–12, one exploration every two months. The High School Explorations Series is four standalone live online courses, each running two months, that take students deep into the frontier of science and technology. From the astrophysics of black holes, to the neuroscience behind brain implants, to the frontier of artificial intelligence, students can join for a single course or the full program.

About the series

Four independent deep dives, one every two months

Unlike the middle-school course, which tells one continuous story across the year, the High School Explorations Series is four independent deep dives. Students can take any one course without having taken the others. Each course spends two months on specific topics of science or technology, going deeper than a survey course would, with room for real student exploration.

Examples of what students will be able to do

  • Explain the physics behind black holes and Einstein's theories of relativity.
  • Describe how molecular biology and biochemistry make personalized medicine and neural implants possible.
  • Understand the concepts of quantum mechanics and nuclear physics, and where each shows up in the real world.
  • Explain how artificial intelligence works and evaluate where quantum computing could change the world.

Each course is 8 two-hour sessions (16 hours), taught live.

The first course in the series looks at the structure of the Universe students live in. From the Big Bang to the latest advances in space technology, students explore fascinating topics like black holes and Einstein's theories of relativity.

Students delve into the molecular biology and biochemistry of the human body — including the science that now lets us put neural chips into the human brain and create medicines tailored to a person's own DNA.

A deep dive into the microscopic world. Students explore the strange world of quantum physics and where those principles show up in the real world, plus the nuclear physics that powers the Sun and the reactors that power our cities.

Exploring Computer Science: Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence

The final course explores the latest revolutionary advances in computing. Students learn the theory underlying artificial intelligence and its everyday applications, plus the exciting new area of quantum computing and how it could transform how fast computers work.

Can we join for just one course?

Yes. Each course stands on its own — join any single two-month course, or take the full program.

If you choose to book a single course, it includes:

  • 8 live sessions (2 hours each, totaling 16 hours of live instruction).

Payment Options

You can choose the payment structure that works best for you:

  • One-time payment: $500 upfront.
  • Monthly plan: $250 per month.
Do the courses need to be taken in order?

No. Each course is a self-contained deep dive, so students can start with whichever topic interests them most.

Are sessions recorded?

Yes, all the high-school sessions are recorded and will be available in the portal.

How much science background is needed?

Each course is written for grades 9–12 and assumes the science a student has covered by that grade; concepts are introduced from first principles and extended for older students.

Does it count for credit?

No, it does not count for high school credit. Students will receive a completion certificate.
